It isn't often that the world of music and sports combine to a near perfect crescendo. Those of us that were alive for the Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige Super Bowl halftime show have done everything we can to wipe it from memory. Electrolysis, hypnosis, stabbing pencils directly into the brain... whatever works. Then KISS played an NHL game. Outside. In LA. In 2014. All was lost.
Then, along came a podcast.
A MLS podcast called
March to the Match. Aside from the tremendous tactical breakdown from the
Armchair Analyst, this soccer podcast has the best set break playlist fathomable. From their tUnE-yArDs theme song, to Budos Band, to one of this podcast's favorites King Khan & the Shrines, the music is absolutely on point. So good are these set breaks that we fine folks who listen demanded a
Spotify playlist, and our soccer overlords were kind enough to grant that request.
In honor of this weekend's
MLS Cup final, and this music-in-sports saving podcast, this playlist is comprised entirely of music from the March to the Match podcast. The tunes indirectly come from the mind of
Nick Firchau. He is the producer of March to the Match and the former host and producer of
ExtraTime Radio on
MLSsoccer.com. He previously worked for the Chicago Sun-Times and its affiliates, but his favorite assignment to date was covering the King Salmon Derby in Ketchikan, Alaska.
The tactical muscle of the podcast comes from
Matt Doyle, a senior editor at MLSsoccer.com and writer of the popular
Armchair Analyst column. He enjoys a good glass of scotch, the Pixies blasted at 11 and intelligent Twitter conversations with lunatic supporters groups. He is not a curmudgeon, he just wants you to think.
Sports fan or not, I think you'll thoroughly enjoy this playlist. Again, if you'd like to keep up to date with what they're playing, you can subscribe to their Spotify playlist
HERE.
However, if you are a sports fan and you're on the fence about soccer, tune in to the MLS Cup final this Sunday at 2:00pm Central Time. It should be a damn good one.
