So I missed a week... sorry about that. However, I'm very happy to report that I'm officially on the way to being a volunteer for the amazing
CHIRP Radio here in Chicago and that's been taking up a little bit of time lately. Hopefully there will be some updates on this soon.
As for this week's playlist, I'd like to give a shout out to
A.A. Dowd (one damn talented film critic) for making me give another listen to
The Decemberists newest album
The King Is Dead. The second time around I realized that album does indeed kick a whole lot of ass and it's great to see an already successful band continue to push themselves. By all means those fine Portlanders could've just kept making
The Crane Wife over and over and people would've loved it... I would've loved it. But, because they're interested in furthering their craft they came up with the under appreciated rock opera
Hazards of Love and have now gone Americana with the quite beautiful
The King Is Dead. After seeing
Radiohead fall flat with
The King of Limbs, it's refreshing to see successful bands continue to push themselves forward.
And speaking of a step forward,
The Flaming Lips make an appearance on this week's playlist much for the same reason as The Decemberists. On the first listen I really wasn't sure about
Embryonic, but after listening to it on a long Michigan bus ride last Spring I fell in love with the fusion of their old and new sounds. So naturally it came to mind when putting all this together and I had to share one of my favorites off the album.
Ramble ramble ramble, here's the playlist. Please enjoy!
