Luke Winslow-King Trio

You have before you some fabulous New Orleans jazz, delta blues, ragtime and folk all rolled into one in studio performance. Michigan's own Luke Winslow-King packed a few bags, grabbed some friends and made the long trek north from his current hometown (New Orleans) this past winter for a brief Midwest tour and was gracious enough to stop by the WIDR studios before his show at The Strutt. The reward for this cross country trip? A sousaphone, drum set, traveling amp and three grown men all crammed into a room that would be considered by some a sizable closet. In spite of the small space the fellas sounded great and the recording came out sounding like a fresh pressed live(ish) CD. I'd tell you more about it, but it'd probably be a lot easier to just download it and enjoy for yourself, no? Just CLICK HERE to get your copy.

If you like what you hear, he recently released his second studio album Old/New Baby which you can preview and purchase by clicking that there link.

On an off note, I'm well aware I'm digging into an old bag of tricks again this week for the download. The majority of the downloads will be fresh sooner than later, but for now it's nice to release these studio sessions cut into tracks for y'all to enjoy instead of the long continuous stream they were as a podcast. I've finally managed to cut the majority of the in studio performance into tracks, so almost every artist that came through and played on the show will be featured on here at some point. If there are any you'd like to see on here drop me a line on the brand new Facebook Page and I'll get it done.

The next download will be a fresh mix, hope y'all are in the mood for some bluegrass!

Michigan Jams!

Some Kind of Jam lives on!

As promised the show formerly favoring the WIDR airwaves has officially gone online with this post. The first download is something of an oldie, but most certainly a goodie. Here's the playlist:

1. Ultraviolet Hippopotamus - North Coast
2. Back Forty - Groove Tractor
3. The Macpodz - Token House
4. Four Finger Five Liner
5. Four Finger Five - Change
6. Larry David Liner

8. Ignorant Mob - Monsieur Le President
9. Steppin' In It - Giuliani's Blues

20. The T-Lo Effect - 4 On 6

To download this album simply click this here link -> Michigan Jams. This is a zip file, which is pretty much the only way these downloads can be done. If you need any help with this here's how to unzip a file.

This post is the first of what could be many to come. Some will be the in studio performances previously only available in one big long continuous file and some will the mix and match playlist you've come to know and love from Some Kind of Jam. If you have any questions, comments, concerns or requests feel free to email DJPretentious@gmail.com.
